A man tossed a bag of kittens into traffic today.

Just a potato sack with four five-week-old kittens inside, tossed them right into a busy intersection. A woman ran for the bag because she noticed it was moving, and rescued one. The rest, she said, were dead. She didnt elaborate, but if you saw the look on her face, she didnt really have to. She took the survivor to the vet and has adopted her, naming her Luna. Luna is on antibiotics and should have a good life - so she lucked out.

A Marine was recently discharged from the service for tossing a puppy over a cliff while someone videotaped him. That little nugget ended up on YouTube. You could hear the puppy yelping as he went over. The Marine was laughing, even as his fellow Marines chastised him for doing it. I’m sure he’s not laughing now, but I can assure you he’s not crying as hard as I want him to be.

I want to know what in the fuck is wrong with people who will do this. It’s bad enough that these creatures never did a fucking thing to you. These are babies. They are utterly defenseless. They offer no threat of any kind, no resistance, they are literally no match for you. What the fuck is wrong with you? What the fuck are you thinking?

I tell you what. These people are fucking lucky as shit that I’m not a superhero. They’re lucky, but I think I might have a goddamn stroke.

Edit: And while I normally take the side of non-humans over humans, to be fair, I wanted to include this gem I discovered this morning while wrapping up a hearing I was working on: a 27-year-old man stomped a one or two-year-old toddler to death by the side of a highway in California on Saturday night. Several passers-by pulled over and tried to stop this man, and the cops had a chopper in the area, swung by, saw what this man was doing, and landed in the field next to the road. The officer was on the ground for less than two minutes, they say, before he made the decision to shoot this man because nothing would stop him from stomping this toddler to death.

They shot and killed him, but it was too late for the baby. Witnesses say that before the police got there, the man declared the child had “demons” in him, and though they tried, they couldn’t even pull him off the boy. Nothing would stop him from punching and stomping the kid to death by the side of the road. The police think they know who he is, but the beating caused so much damage they say it’s impossible to get a visual ID. Apparently, there was blood all over the cab of the pickup truck as well as all over the man himself and on the highway. I guess he sure did get those demons. More than he bargained for, maybe. Either way, not enough of them.

A dictator in the making

When Hugo Chavez was elected president of Venezuela, I was happy. I like the idea of socialism - at least a certain kind of socialism which roughly equates to democratic socialism. Though I’m of the firm belief that no one “ism” is ever good enough to run a country on, and that good government relies on the proper mix of pretty much every “ism” (something that we have yet to see in human history), I think socialism is a good place from which to start because it takes the needs of ALL people into account and gives everyone equal status and importance, no matter who you are or where you come from. At least, that’s on paper. We all know that it’s not the “ism” that is ever the problem. It’s the people behind the implementation of any given “ism” that are always causing the huge issues.

Well, it looks like old Hugo is no different. I am very disappointed in this. Since his election I watched him go from a well-meaning man, at least on the surface, to someone who has rapidly propelled himself into the position of dictator of Venezuela. Because that’s what “no term limits” means: dictatorship. Even the most benevolent, kindest of dictators is still a dictator, and a dictatorship is antithetical to democracy. So he’s gone from being someone I admired to someone that I now wish to see put down as fast as possible

Maybe not as fast as Dubya and Cheney, or good old Vlad Putin, or Kim Jong-Il - you get what I’m saying here - but fast. Like so many socialists before him, he has besmirched and smeared what socialism stands for, what socialism is, and as a result he should pay. He won’t - at least not right away - but he should. I’m very, very disappointed in him

And I hope this doesnt give Bernie Sanders, whom I adore, any wild ideas. :P
Shame on you, Hugo. You could have been a great man. Now, you’re just as much a devil as you accused Bush of being. Pot, meet kettle. I dont care if you want to send everyone to college. You also want to be a dictator.

Keep your fucking oil, you double-crossing traitor. I’ll walk.

I’ve always wanted a horse, anyway.

That word, “bettering…”

…I dont think it means what they think it means.

I’d call them fucking barbarians, but that would be an insult to barbarians. Let’s see, how about knuckle-dragging, subhuman, semi-evolved, mentally deranged throwbacks…now that’s more like it.

The human gene pool desperately needs some fucking chlorine.

The Saudi government recently has taken some steps toward bettering the situation of women in the kingdom, including the establishment earlier this year of special courts to handle domestic abuse cases, adoption of a new labor law that addresses working women’s rights, and creation of a human rights commission.

Emphasis is mine. Why they’d choose to make this the last paragraph of a story that has absolutely zero with doing any bettering of anything in any way is beyond me, but CNN isn’t exactly known for their stellar journalism.

Story is C&P after the jump (for posterity).

Insult or honour?

I adore the Dalai Lama with as much passion as I despise George W. Bush.

I’m not sure if the Congressional Gold Medal is even worth anything at all when this president is the one awarding it; furthermore, the Dalai Lama is so far and above the token that it’s like he has to stoop to accept it.

But being the gracious man that he is - he’s certainly a better human being than I could ever hope to be even in my wildest fantasies - the Dalai Lama will accept it with that incredible smile that lights up the world and that giggle that sounds like the stars themselves are laughing, so it’ll be okay, because he’s really not above or below anything, really; that’s the whole point, I suppose.

Still, though, it rankles me that this president, of all presidents, is the one to do the honours. I should let the Dalai Lama be my inspiration and rise above that kind of feeling - he of all people understands what having to deal with a corrupt and abusive government is all about, especially when you put it into perspective - but being the base, grubby dirtbag that I am, it’s just too close and the emotions are too raw for me to do it.

I’d say congratulations, but I just wouldn’t mean it. The “honour” is worthless to me, and the gesture is mystifying. My first thought was “hmm, I wonder what Shrub is up to now behind the cover of this gesture?” I just dont believe he’d do anything at all without a despicable ulterior motive. I wish the Dalai Lama would refuse it, to be honest. I really do. But he won’t, because he’s just not that kind of guy. That’s why he’s the Dalai Lama and I’m just some fat schmuck in LA.

Oh, and fuck China.

How to tell if your neighbor is a twat.

WTF?

Brooklyn Sidewalk Doodle Draws Graffiti Notice

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Chalk it up to the city’s crackdown on graffiti.

A 6-year-old child’s chalk sketches on her family’s stoop brought her bemused parents a graffiti-removal notice that threatened a $300 fine, the family and Sanitation Department officials said.

“My mom got a ticket for graffiti, and it wasn’t even graffiti,'’ first-grader Natalie Shea said. “It was art, very nice art.'’

But a neighbor apparently didn’t see it that way and called the city’s 311 complaint line about the blue flower drawn earlier this month on the stoop of Natalie’s home on 10th street in Park Slope, a Brooklyn neighborhood known for being family-friendly.

The notice that arrived Oct. 5, giving the family 45 days to clean up the “graffiti,'’ was a form letter sent in response to all such complaints, city Sanitation Department spokeswoman Kathy Dawkins said.

Officials say all complaints to 311 automatically generate a letter.

“If people call and complain, we have to follow it up,'’ she said, but noted that the agency “does not consider a child’s chalk drawing to be graffiti.'’

Nor does City Councilman Peter Vallone, who spearheaded a 2005 city law that requires property owners to get rid of graffiti.

“It was never the intent of my law to capture chalk drawings on the sidewalk,'’ he said.

Natalie’s mother, Jen Pepperman, said she would wash off the girl’s doodles more promptly in future. As for the offending flower, it was erased Thursday by a heavy rain.
