In the past few days I’ve been hit with several dozen spam messages from all over the place. This happens every couple months or so, and this is one of the primary reasons you must register to comment here. If anyone could post anything at any time without having to register, this site would be totally flooded with spam comments in a matter of days. That’s not cool, and I’m not having it.
As well, especially these days, too many people are poisonous, cowardly assholes who feel that because they are anonymous on the Internets they can say what they like with no possible repercussions. I would never censor anyone here. And I totally respect your right not to give your name or reveal yourself if you post on this site – that’s up to you and I would never under any normal circumstances (or even most abnormal ones) “out” anyone without their consent. However, because I do tend to talk about pretty controversial stuff, or stuff that gets people heated up pretty easily, it’s all too easy for someone to come on in here bursting at the seams with a lot of hateful and racist garbage, and that shit is not tolerated here in any way.
When you post a comment to this site, your IP is revealed to me. That means if youre a hateful pigdog here with no intention of redeeming yourself, or if your only purpose is to cause trouble, then I get to retaliate by making your online life a little less comfortable and anonymous for you by tracing your ass down and, for one thing, having a heart-to-heart with your ISP. You know, the guys who provide you with access so you can do things like be a cowardly asshole on other people’s websites.
Those are my two main reasons behind requiring registration before youre allowed to post freely here. All other posts will be held in moderation; registration is not a requirement of comment approval.
Now, one of these days, I’ll actually get around to putting up a blog template that isnt broken. If only WordPress werent so diabolically complicated to work with…
