This is a great article. It sums up everything about the entire Los Angeles area just by talking about how crappy LAX is. From the article:

You also can’t fault LAX’s presentation — there’s something still unbelievably cool about the extraterrestrial outline of the Theme Building, the giant LAX sign, and those lighted, rainbowcolored cylinders. Perhaps that’s what Angelenos should be proud of — the triumph of visual drama over such drudgery as shopping, eating and restrooms.

It’s like a tiny perfect model of the city it lives in: glitzy from a distance, but once you actually have to live in it and see what it’s really like, you find it’s dreary, ugly, depressing, and almost wholly lacking in substance.
