omgwtf!

A phenomenon.

I have to post this, because this is, I believe, the very first, and probably will remain the only, instance that I can ever recall being in 100% no-holds-barred agreement with regarding something that George W Bush has uttered:

“I think the national anthem ought to be sung in English, and I think people who want to be a citizen of this country ought to learn English and they ought to learn to sing the national anthem in English.”

I havent written anything yet about the current wave of incredibly petulant, self-absorbed, ignorant whining being done by illegal immigrants…who refuse to even admit they are criminals by being illegals…but that doesnt mean I havent been thinking a whole lot about it. I’m sure that sometime in the near future it will finally burst out of me. In the meantime, let me just say that no, I dont think we should close our borders. America is a nation of immigrants and I’m happy for it. It makes us better in the end. The way it’s going down right now, though, some people need to get a fucking grip.

I keep trying to add more about that but I’m firmly deleting it because that’s an entirely other conversation and I’m determined not to get into it right now. :)

In the meantime, though, I just wanted to mark this historic occasion for posterity. Note it well, for never shall you see the like again!

That being said, it would really be nice if he himself learned English too someday, wouldnt it?

Momentus!

As of approximately 5:00 this evening, I have car insurance for the first time since moving to Los Angeles. This, a mere 11 days after paying a whole year’s worth of taxes for the first time in a decade.

Do I rock, or what!?

It is also important to note that today marks the 999th day that George Bush has left in office. We are finally out of the thousands and into triple digits at last.

My nipples explode with delight!

Los Angeles, Succinctly.

This is a great article. It sums up everything about the entire Los Angeles area just by talking about how crappy LAX is. From the article:

You also can’t fault LAX’s presentation — there’s something still unbelievably cool about the extraterrestrial outline of the Theme Building, the giant LAX sign, and those lighted, rainbowcolored cylinders. Perhaps that’s what Angelenos should be proud of — the triumph of visual drama over such drudgery as shopping, eating and restrooms.

It’s like a tiny perfect model of the city it lives in: glitzy from a distance, but once you actually have to live in it and see what it’s really like, you find it’s dreary, ugly, depressing, and almost wholly lacking in substance.

LAX, terminally dreadful - Los Angeles Times

Sometimes it’s good to be an idiot.

I paid my 2005 taxes today.

For the first time in 10 years, I paid all my taxes for a full year. I win. I am delirious.

I also paid my first quarter taxes for this year, and according to my calculations, I was roughly $1300 short on the payment. I’ve been tearing my hair out wondering how I’m going to make this up.

Well, that would have been the case if my calculations weren’t wildly inaccurate. Turns out I was basing the entire year on an extimate of $600 a month. That would have turned out to be $7,200 a year in taxes. I did the math today…the burden of this has been incredibly heavy…and when I saw the $7,200 number, it struck me forcibly that this was nothing short of crazy talk. I dont pay $7,200 a year in taxes!

Then of course I couldn’t remember what I paid last year…was it $5,700? $6,100? Goddamn it…

I pulled out the paperwork and had a look and it turns out that I paid “only” $5,450 in taxes for last year. Which means, of course, that the $1300 I thought I owed for this quarter has completely vanished. If I pay $600 a month every month from May to December I’ll still wind up paying $150 extra.

This is…unbelievably cool. Almost all the incredible stress I’ve been under for three months has vanished. Vanished. Gone. Just like that.

And it only took me four and a half months to do the math.

 !!

Eat this, Creationism!

Yeah, I’m afraid science wins.

Again.

Don’t you folks ever get tired of being wrong?

Cynthia McKinney

I have a lot of things to say about Cynthia McKinney just lately. So do a lot of other people.

I’ll let Cynthia Tucker say it for me, since my brain is overloading with anger at the moment. She’s a lot more eloquent than I could be right now, and covers almost every base I would, with far less swearing. :)
